 Damon P. Bowie
The Inspired Journey of a Christian Artist
Born June 22, 1969 in New Orleans,
Louisiana, Damon P. Bowie was raised by his loving and Christian
grandmother Betty Bowie. Even as a child, Damon had insight into his
own life declaring to his godfather one Sunday afternoon, at the age of
twelve, that he would marry “that girl” he had just seen in church.
Today, Damon and “that girl,” his lovely wife Penny Bowie, have now
known each other for over twenty-two years, have been married for
fifteen, and have three beautiful and vivacious daughters.
Bowie began drawing religious designs at
the unbelievable age of five using pen and paper. Throughout his
formative years, he fell in love with theology and Bible history giving
him even more visions to share on his canvas. Entering college,
Damon pursued a medical degree, but with a wife and new baby to support,
Bowie took on freelance art jobs to fulfill his financial
responsibilities. This ultimately led to his career as an artist.
It was in this culture of creativity,
without any formal training, that launched Bowie into the arts in a new
and exciting way. After years of exploration and practice to hone his
skills, he believes God gives him his inspiration(s) for his most moving
works of Christian art. The Word comes alive in his visual
interpretation of the Bible’s most remarkable stories that Bowie also
shares as a minister, a pastor of young married couples, and a guitarist
in his church’s musical group, “The Worship Team”.
“On November 16, 1986, I received the
Lord and on that wonderful day, the tone for my entire life was set. As
I journey toward the mark of the highest calling, Christ Jesus, that
calling for me . . . is to create… and I humbly persevere to answer His
call.”
These words from Damon P. Bowie best
express his passion and desire to share his calling with others through
his Spirituals™ Collection.
Thank you Damon Bowie, for your help on our
pilgrimage...
